Tab Layout

Drag rows or top tabs to reorder. Dashboard stays visible so tabs can always be restored.

Accessibility

Settings are saved in this browser/device only, so each workstation or phone can have its own layout.
The browser refreshes every 5 seconds. Source checks run on the saved interval; 60 seconds is recommended for SPECI detection.

Ask The Guide / Weather Dictionary

Local guide, not internet AIType a question and I will match it to built-in app help. This can become a true AI assistant later if you add an API provider.

1. Start Here

Check Sources OK, then add one airport and press Scan Now.

2. Read The Current Obs

The newest METAR/SPECI/COR stays at the top. The age badge tells you how long ago it transmitted.

3. Review Alerts

Red or amber items need attention before you move on.

4. Add Context

Open Forecast for NWS forecast, TAF, and AFD context; use Hazards, SPC, GFA, radar, satellite, and PIREPs when weather is changing.

Built-In AI Path

This first version uses local search and browser speech. A later version can add a real AI Q&A model, narrated videos, or an animated training avatar after you choose an API provider and privacy rules.

METAR / SPECI / COR

Hover terms to learn shorthand without opening a manual.

Flight Category

VFR, MVFR, IFR, and LIFR are based on ceiling and visibility. The app shows the category near each current report.

TAF / AFD / SPC

TAF gives terminal forecast timing. AFD explains forecaster reasoning. SPC gives convective outlooks, watches, MDs, and storm reports.

QC Records

The QC tab can build checklist rows, daily summaries, copy tables for Excel, and save day records locally.

0-5 statute miles
Highest-priority alert band for immediate station thunderstorm/lightning awareness.
5-10 statute miles
Near-field band useful for onset/end timing and close VCTS/TS review.
10-50 statute miles
Outer situational-awareness band for convective monitoring around the airport.
Live lightning is treated as an observer aid. Use controlling orders, local procedures, radar, visual observation, and official dissemination for final coding decisions.
